Baldness ad given brush-off
Jan 2006
A Baldness remedy advert was banned yesterday - because the "satisfied" customer in it had simply had a Bobby Charlton-style combover.
The TV ad for Mane thickening spray starred a greasy-haired man with a bald patch - and then had a second shot of him with a covered bonce.
Makers boasted that the product gave hair "a fuller, natural appearance in seconds".
But the Advertising Standards Authority ruled: "The thick head of hair in the 'after' photo appeared to have been achieved largely through a combover."
They also axed a second Mane commercial that used camera tricks to give a woman lush tresses.
They said: "The impression was exaggerated because the woman was in a different pose and was lit differently".
The firm insisted both results were genuine and a spokesman added: "The product has been used for more than 20 years without a complaint."
