New Information Shows Men Worry Most about Hair Loss at 30

Figures released by the leading UK hair loss clinic, The Belgravia Centre, show men worry most about hair loss and do something about it at age 30, but it is becoming increasingly prevalent among even younger men.

Hair loss is more common in younger people than ever before and 30 is the age where a man decides to do something about it, according to recent statistics.

Figures revealed by the UK's leading hair loss clinic, The Belgravia Centre, show there is an exponential rise in the number of men being treated for hair loss between the ages of 21 and 30, thereafter patient numbers gradually decline with age.

The results take into account all 10,660 men currently being treated for hair loss at the Belgravia Centre, and according to its senior hair loss specialist, Leonora Doclis, young people make up a large proportion.

"The statistics indicate that the average age that a man starts to experience hair loss is declining and the number of those affected are growing," Leonora says.

Male pattern baldness used to be associated with middle age -- the previous consensus was that two-thirds of men will have some degree of hair loss by the time they're 40 but these statistics suggest the problem is more prevalent at a younger age.

"So many things are going on in your early 20s -- the pressures of study, expectations on careers, moving from one place to another, all of these can create the type of stress that can trigger the early onset of male pattern baldness.

Scepticism is frequently the reason why so many hair loss sufferers live their lives without searching for a solution, but the increasing number of patients being treated for hair loss at 30 is likely to be the result of improved knowledge and the availability of better treatments, says Leonora.

"More people are becoming aware that you can do something about hair loss, but in the past your options were limited. Not until the last decade has Propecia and minoxidil been combined to produce significant results."

In 1988, the topical hair restoration agent minoxidil was approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss and Propecia, a one-a-day, DHT-blocking pill, was approved in 1997.

After years of successfully treating various forms of hair loss, the Belgravia Centre has found the effectiveness of these hair loss treatments improves considerably when combined and administered in the right dose for the individual and when supported with the right hair growth boosters.
