International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery Hosts 15th Annual Scientific Meeting in Las Vegas, September 26-30, 2007

World's Leading Hair Restoration Physicians Gather to Present Latest Research, Scientific Advances in Diagnosing and Treating Hair Loss

Sept 2007

From new data of the first human clinical study demonstrating the safety and efficacy of a robotic- assisted hair transplantation device to cutting-edge research examining how donor hair from other people could be used successfully for future hair transplants, the latest findings and technological breakthroughs in hair restoration will be presented by the world's foremost hair restoration experts at the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery's (ISHRS) 15th Annual Scientific Meeting.

More than 500 physicians and surgical assistants from around the world dedicated to advancing the art and science of hair restoration are expected to attend this premier educational event, September 26-30, 2007, at The Venetian in Las Vegas. "

The demand for hair restoration procedures that deliver natural-looking, permanent results that are virtually undetectable has never been stronger," said Paul C. Cotterill, MD, president of the ISHRS.

"This meeting offers our members access to an unrivaled CME educational program to meet this increasing demand, including live surgeries transmitted via satellite, numerous opportunities for physicians to hone their clinical skills with hands-on training by expert faculty, and several panels dedicated to sharing best practices to optimize cosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction."

A sampling of the hot topics to be presented at the ISHRS Annual Meeting include:

-- A new study looking at intact hairlines in mature men without androgenetic alopecia, (e.g., Ronald Reagan, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis) may hold the key to reshaping natural hairlines in younger men suffering from hair loss

-- The hair growth promoting effect of vitamin B12 in vitro and its potential in promoting hair growth after micrograft transplantation

-- Data from a study examining the impact of hair transplant surgery on psychosocial aspects of hair loss, such as anxiety and depression

-- Evaluating the use of laser therapy for pain management and to accelerate the wound healing process of donor and recipient areas after hair transplant surgery

-- A review of hormone receptor physiology and androgens in female hair loss

-- Best practices in non-scalp hair transplants, including eyebrow and eyelash transplantation

One of this year's featured guest speakers is Maria Siemionow, MD, PhD, DSc, professor of surgery, director of plastic surgery research, and head of microsurgery training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, who will speak on "Immunology and Chimerisation of Scalp Allografts and Medical Immunosuppression."

Internationally noted for her cutting-edge work in performing full face transplants, Dr. Siemionow's current research using hair for hair transplantation from one animal to another animal in experimental models is showing promising results in successfully transplanting this donor hair using minimal amounts of immunosuppressant drugs.

Dr. Siemionow's presentation will take place during the meeting's Opening Session on Thursday, September 27, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
