Expert Hair Transplant Surgeon Offers Three Quick Tips When Researching a Clinic for Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery is on the rise as the ASPS reported last week that 13.8 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2011.

Two years in a row, the plastic surgery market has shown much growth, reported by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) this February. ASPS reported a five percent increase in surgeries in 2011, despite the uncertainty of the economy and the debt crisis.

"The generations are aging, and the demand for cosmetic and reconstructive procedures is in much higher demand," says medical director of Beverly Hills Hair Restoration.

Dr. John Kahen M.D. recommends these three quick tips when doing research for a surgeon.

1. Research the procedure and be certain it's the procedure the patient wants

Dr. Kahen recommends researching the procedure to have a basic understanding of what will be performed. "This will help during the consultation, so you can be sure you are getting all your questions answered to make you feel as comfortable and secure in your decision as possible."

2. Consider Traveling

If the patient is in an area where there are not many skilled surgeons, Dr. Kahen recommends traveling outside the city for the right clinic and surgeon. "If you aren't finding the top surgeons in your town," he says, "it might be time to branch out to other areas and consider traveling." Dr. Kahen offers travel incentives that include full coverage of airfare and hotel for patients traveling to him for hair transplant procedures.

3. Have realistic expectations

It's crucial the surgeon explain what the patient should expect before the surgery, during and after, as well as be completely transparent about the results from the procedure. "Unrealistic expectations about results from the procedure either by the surgeon or the patient is a red flag. You have a right to know what to expect from the procedure," he said.
